Put that feed up where I can find it
Syndication is critical to reading blogs – so why do so many blogs and engines make finding that RSS / XML / ATOM link so hard to find on a page? Case in point – I just visited Dan Gillmor’s excellent new blog (now that eJournal is gone) and immediately wanted to subscribe to it via Newsgator (right click over the feed URL in IE). But the feed link itself is, in typical Typepad style, buried halfway down on the right and almost indistinguishable from the other posts and links.
It should be, on this blog and everywhere else, right up top and blatantly obvious (I’ll be fixing that on my blog momentarily <g>). Make it easy for your customers to connect with you, don’t make them hunt for the info they want.
Some may point to autodiscovery of all feeds on a page, which is cool, but doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make the feed visually easy to find as well.
