More ways for me to display my lack of talent
GarageBand – one of the pre-installed cool toys that come with a Mac. I figured I would probably never even load the thing up, until I saw LifeHacker’s post about NIN releasing a song in GarageBand format. Two things are amazing here:
1. How much time I can waste (and enjoy) playing around with remixing a song, when I in fact no nothing about remixing anything beyond a nice dinner salad.
2. How much attention the song and NIN are getting just for this. Trent Reznor comments on how he’s already heard a country remix and an “abstract Latin intepretation”. He acknowledges the copyright issues, but at least he’s treating his fans with respect and encouraging them to embrace the song and make it their own experience. Akin to a bunch of the Star Wars fan movies that you hear about every day. A far cry from threatening to sue your fans for having the gumption to infringe on the purity of your creation, which seems to be standard practice for too many in the entertainment world.
