Going digerati
I feel so trendy.
I have my Timbuk2 laptop bag, a new Mac Powerbook, use Firefox for most browsing, have a TabletPC (trendy Microsoft-style!), and now use Wordpress, the oh-so-chic blog engine of the day.
Migrating my family photo blog off TypePad to a hosted Wordpress solution right now, partly for the adding flexibility and plugins, and partly as a test bed to evaluate if I want to do it with this blog.
Looking for advice on:
1. Best WP themes anyone can recommend? I’m liking 3–column Relaxation and the standard Kubrick. Clean, light, with some nifty drop shadowning work for me. I also want to able to quickly and simply modify the header photo & graphic.
2. Best plug-ins, especially for displaying thumbnails of photos/albums in the sidebar. I know there is an early version of WP – Gallery2 plugin, but that seems a bit buggy. Also curious about the most-used plugins.
3. How do you embed pics directly into a post? WP only seems to let me link off to pics. Seems like a painful extra step if I just want to post a single photo w/o bothering with FTP.

Kevin:
Hmmm…maybe you should hang out with David Parmet. He has a very similar level of geek cred.
I use a Dell.
I use Windows XP Pro.
I have a Targus Laptop Backback.
I use b2evolution.
I have no geek cred.

tag should do that.
Remember I’m a marketing guy – my actual “geek cred” is about squat, so I must compensate with the outward trappings.
Larry – yes, I’m familiar with image tags. This is great if your pic is sitting somewhere else online, such as if I’d just FTP’d it up to my site. I was looking for a plugin where when I said “post this pic” it both inserted the code and embedded the photo in the actual post.
A friend just point me to WYSIWYG II, which seems to do the trick nicely for WP.
Just curious, what features are you looking for that TypePad isn’t offering you today? And what features are you looking for in a hosted application that Movable Type doesn’t offer?
