On education – speech at Gnomedex
Kathy Gill from University of Washington just showed some amazing stats – e.g. only 7% of her students this spring had even heard of Flickr. Equally eye opening stats about student awareness of blogging and RSS.
The jibes well with what I’ve heard anecdotally from the students I work with. Plus it really highlights how easy it is to get caught up in the awarness bubble – where everyone blogs and uses an RSS aggregator, knows Technorati tags and shares photos on Flickr. Fact is, even those us older folks tend to think of being on the bleeding edge of Internet usage (students) are still just now internalizing many of the new developments that seem old hat to the rest of us.
