Someone is angry
Ross Mayfield seems a bit peeved at MSN Filter. Whatever the merits of the rest of his post, I could’t get past this first line:
Honestly, I couldn’t give a crap about MSN. Anyone who blogs there, or reads them, doesn’t know the whole story.
What kind of judgemental, arrogant blanket statement is that? If you have points about claims made by the Filter team, or their use of terminology, make them and back them up intelligently. Fine. But why immediately diminish your credibility on the subject by ranting on the mere idea of MSN and insulting everyone who uses it?
Reminds me of the Prodigy and Compuserv users who used to rip on the “ignorant masses” who used AOL, way back in the day. Elitist crap, 2005 version.
(disclaimer, I have zero to do with MSN or Filter. I just dislike comments like this)

Pardon the tone of what you excerpted. Probably keeps people from reading the rest of the post, which did back it up intelligently, albeit with strong language.
I also don’t necessarily have a problem with the Filter team. But someone promoting their work decided to play buzzword bingo in a way that insults user’s intelligence.
Yes, you did back it up intelligently – my point was you could have done that without making a blanket negative comment to kick it off. It instantly taints the rest of the post and is insulting to folks who use and enjoy a service you may not like on a personal level.
However I agree, poor use of buzzwords like wiki in this case are not appropriate and just confuse people. I had just had to pry myself away from the first line of your post in order to get through the rest.
There are a lot of factual errors in Ross’s post. The only reference to wiki’s is from bloggers not Microsoft.
