1. GO DUCKS! #16 in the new ESPN poll, #15 in the AP after a smackdown of the Huskies (did I mention I once bought the domain name huckthefuskies.net just out of spite?). 6–1, bowl eligible already. Kellen Clemens had over 300 yards passing in the first half and is on a tear this year. Good stuff. Put out my Duck flag in my predominently Husky neighborhood. Unfortunately the game wasn’t carried live on any TV stations in the Pacific NW. For the love of Pete, why not? There are a few fans up here who would be happy to keep the ratings up. Listened to the whole thing via AM radio.

2. UCLA is #9 (ESPN) and unbeaten (barely). LA is having a good college football year and I do love it when the Pac-10 gets some good press.

3. Speaking of the southern part of the state, the USC – Notre Dame game will go down as one of the all-time greatest. Hearbreaking for Irish fans, but damn, that was a dramatic finish. I’m also glad the officiating crew made the right call at the end, despite the Irish students rushing the field. They might be pissed, but on reply they’ll see it clear that the ball went out of bounds before time expired.

4. RANT on ESPN Fantasy Football. All year the site has had serious problems, to the point they sent out a broad apology to League Managers for all the downtime and score updating issues. They don’t seem to have managed the site to scale to handle all the traffic it’s getting, which is beyond dumb. FFL is obscenely popular, and ESPN especially, and there is simply NO excuse for not putting together a good online experience for paying customers on game day. Now I just notice that even today, Week 6 of the season, the Fantasy Cast feature (by far the most useful) disappeared as an option from the Scoreboard after being available earlier this morning. As a friend on my league just said: “You would honestly think that this is the first week of the season the way they are handling this.” Ridiculous. IT guys for the site – or wherever the problem lay here – need to be given a talking to.
