Starting to get podcasting…almost
Yes, I am a luddite on this trend. I have been down on podcasting for a long while now, with my basic reasoning being – who has time? I barely have time to scan my RSS headlines, much less sit through a 60 minute ‘cast on a single subject. I think I found the key though – travel.
When you travel you have loads of listening time – hanging out in airport lounges, long flights, buses, and so on. So to prep for this current trip I subscribed to a couple podcasts through iTunes (to drop onto my all new, custom-engraved iPod Nano. NICE). A fantasy football one, and The Chris Pirillo show. Both were OK (I don’t think Chris was on his A-game for this one), but I can finally start to see the promise. It’s so nice to take a pause, hear an actual voice, and digest the conversation rather than powering through it as one line of text among hundreds screaming for attention.
When I get back, I’m off to find out which ‘casts I’ll subscribe to on a more regular basis (Chris, still yours :-)).
A thought a co-worker and I had tossed around a while back – what about a podcast series with 10-15 minute interviews of marketers around Microsoft? A chance for marketers to learn about the huge variety of marketing jobs at the company, and a chance for customers and partners to see us not just as collateral producing machines. Keep them short (to the lack of time issue above), keep them light and entertaining (what was your WORST trade show experience?), and keep up the variety.
Any thoughts?

The marketing podcast would provide some pretty cool insight, I would listen.

The usual question first: Does a “these are the jobs at MS you could have” and “learn to like our marketing guys” really work together that well? :)
But then again, I think that would be a nice idea, just as some other departments have made contact to the outside world through their blogs to show themselves as being nice people.
Well, then again, we are talking marketing folks here … ;)
