On a whim I decided to blow 3–4 late night hours and customize the still-in-alpha-release Squible theme for Wordpress to make it work on this site. While it borrows a lot from K2, my once and potentially future theme, Squible has some very cool little tricks to it that make for a very visually pleasing design and great use of social tools.
One glaringly obvious change – no sidebar. All that good stuff is down below. Other comments and wish list:
- WISH: Swap out “Aside” for a del.icio.us linkroll and incorporate into the “elements” (if you install and play with this thing, you’ll see what I mean)
- WISH: Vastly simplify the stylesheets and array of files. There are unique stylesheets for each of IE, Firefox, and Opera. I did this all on Firefox, with a few IE tweaks. It sort of works in IE now, and not a clue if it works in Opera.
- WISH: reduce the # of unique CSS tags for link formatting – I still don’t have a clue how to modify the link colors on a post or article page to match the front page.
- MY CHANGES TO MAKE: Add back in my contact info to the “Author” section on the front page, plus some del.icio.is, technorati, and flickr links; get FAlbum working again so I can have a photo album functional; start working on a “writings” page; that’s it for now.
Anyway – it’s very much a work in progress, and when the Squible folks come out with their first Beta of the theme, no doubt loads will have changed and I’ll have to commit another few hours to updating it. Happy happy joy joy!
