Why is anyone still naming startups with "the silent e"?
Hasn’t this officially been done by now? Aren’t people writing parodies on the “death of ‘e’”? When Flickr did it, it qualified as kind of cool and funky. Go see how unoriginal this is now.
When Bubble 2.0 pops, the “silent ‘e’” will be the Pets.com sock puppet iconic symbol that everyone mocks. The “silent ‘e’” is the bubble’s mark. Run away.
Please, go put the ‘e’ back in your names (except you, Flickr. You cashed out, and we love you for it). If you are prepping to launch a new company, just say no to to the “silent ‘e’”, for your own sake.
The latest culprit is Lingr, it seems.
Lingr is an online chat application. It’s very similar to Campfire by 37signals. The difference is that Lingr is a lot more open, all of the chat rooms are public and open to everyone.
OK, maybe a cool idea, or not. But where’s that ‘e’, eh?
