It’s alive! Fixed WP2.0 and K2 RC3
Man, that sucked. I charged into an upgrade to the latest version of Wordpress (2.5) without bothering to check if my theme (K2) was actually compatible. Turns out, it wasn’t. Things died, code flew, tears rolled. OK, maybe no tears but it wasn’t pretty.
As has been documented in several places, the issue is with K2’s use of Sidebar Modules to replace the built in Widgets. The new Wordpress uses those same widgets for the admin dashboard, so by disabling them you are toast. The solution comes courtesy of Brad at ChaoticTech (who, apparently, is all of 10 years old. NICE way to make me feel old). The key thing in that blog post is to copy the plain text code EXACTLY - it has been reposted a couple places in support forums with small errors that sucked an extra 45 minutes out of my life trying to recover from.
Anyway, all is well now. Until the next version of K2 or Wordpress comes out. The joys of DIY web sites.
