Now that is a true fan
I’m not a Yankee-hater nor Boston Red Sox fan, so I have no stake in this game. However any sports fan who has bled their team’s colors at one time or another should appreciate this for the absolute genius and purity of it:
Yanks fend off new stadium ‘curse’: Construction workers unearth buried Red Sox jersey
In short – the Yankees are building themselves a fancy new stadium in the Bronx. A construction worker on the project just so happens to have loyalties that lie with Boston. So in order to curse the stadium he buried a Red Sox jersey under two feet of concrete inside the stadium. Someone tipped the Yankees off and they unearthed the thing, and are considering filing criminal charges against the guy.
A few things should happen here instead:
1. The Yankees should drop any charges and just admire both the sheer balls and brilliance of the guy. See it for what it was – a stunt from a passionate fan that will do nothing but add more legend to the already storied rivalry. That is a GOOD THING for both teams. Wipe the egg of your face Yanks, and just be sports fans for a minute.
2. The Red Sox should immediately enshrine the guy in some way – Fan of the Year/Decade/Whatever. Give him free seats behind the home dugout for the year at Fenway. Something. Yeah, in the end he didn’t pull it off but my God, how cool was the effort?
3. BoSox fans should never let this guy get within 100 yards of a bar without a rack of free beers awaiting him.
4. He should probably just move to Boston, as he is a marked man in NYC.
Good work, Mr. Construction Worker Red Sox Fan. Top notch.
